English Ivy is an invasive species that kills trees by smothering leaves, creating rot and weighing down branches. This also increases the risk that a tree will fall on a trail user.
No special skills are needed in how to remove English Ivy. We'll teach you how to help in just a few minutes.
The event will begin with welcome remarks from organization and National Park Service leaders!

The <a href="https://chessctr.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">U.S. Chess Center</a>, in partnership with <a href="https://www.barracksrow.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Barracks Row Main Street</a>, is pleased to again present FREE&nbsp;chess tournaments at Eastern Market Metro Park for 2025.&nbsp; Students in grades 2-8 that know the real rules of chess and understand <a href="https://chessctr.org/teach/#etiquette" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">tournament etiquette</a> are invited to participate in&nbsp;friendly (and free) chess competitions from 10:30am until 1:00pm on Saturday, May 16th and/or&nbsp; June 6th&nbsp;this summer.&nbsp; There is no cost to participate in these tournaments and at each event students may play one or more games.&nbsp; We will present awards to the top players, including top girl and top DC school (so encourage others from your school to register and play).&nbsp; Space is limited, so please register in advance and arrive by&nbsp;10:20am to ensure your place.&nbsp; Drop-ins and on-site registration will be allowed;&nbsp;however, we can only accommodate a maximum of 48 players simultaneously.
There will be areas where families may wait during the games, but parents/spectators are not allowed in the playing area.

🚨 Community members - Adopters and fosters are needed for 19&nbsp;dogs on the urgent list by Tuesday, 6/9.&nbsp;&nbsp;Please go meet and adopt dogs today.&nbsp;&nbsp;The adoption fee for Tank and Toby is $0 based on weighing over&nbsp;80 pounds.&nbsp;&nbsp;They are at full capacity with dogs and need space for more dogs coming in. Overview
A hands-on vinyl DJ workshop in Washington, D.C. for small or large groups.
Vinyl is back! Whether you’re a music fan, have had dreams of being a DJ or are already a laptop DJ who wants to step into spinning wax, this experience is for you.
What to Expect:
The experience will be a 2 class introduction to hands on DJ mixing with a veteran instructor from the DMV area.

<li>Get hands on training to learn basic techniqe and mix 2 songs together</li>
<li>Learn some hip-hop history</li>
<li>Dig for your favorite hip-hop, R&amp;B and rock records in our extensive library of vintage LP's and 12" singles from the 60's - 2000's</li>

The entire experience will be about two hours long with each of the 2 classes happening across 2 consecutive weekends.

The Words Beats &amp; Life DJ &amp; Production studio is in the community wing of St Stephen’s Church in Columbia Heights, DC. Enter in the parking lot on the 16th St NW side of the church and enter at the side door. You will need to contact the staff number provided in your order confirmation to be let in the building.
Parking:
There is free street parking on Newton and Meridian Streets NW. Please read the signs to make sure you are in compliance with the neighborhood regulations. Please do not park in the church lot, all spaces are reserved.
No alcohol or controlled substances allowed in the workshop.

<a href="https://www.inseries.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">IN Series</a> will present the world premiere of SONG OF SAKUNTALA, composed by IN Series Artistic Director Timothy Nelson, this June. Conceived as a 90-minute, uninterrupted concert in the spirit of Indian classical musical performances, Song of Sakuntala is drawn from Kalidasa’s 5th century play Shakuntala—a deeply important text of South Asian literature, often compared in importance to Shakespeare’s Hamlet—and from poetry by three landmark Indian poets: Rabindranath Tagore, Sarojini Naidu, and Vidyapati, as well as sacred Mahabharata words. The work unfolds across seven acts built on a palindromic structure, performed over a single continuous drone, for an ensemble of oboe, viola da gamba, violin, sitar, and tabla.&nbsp; The production will feature singers Aryssa Leigh Burrs, Teresa Ferrara, Marvin Wayne Allen. The instrumental ensemble is led by acclaimed sitarist Rajib Karmakar.

The Kintz-Mejia Academy of Ballet presents “The Emperor and the Nightingale,” a fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson about a Chinese emperor who prefers a bejeweled mechanical bird over the real nightingale, only to be saved from death by the real bird's song after he falls gravely ill. The story contrasts the automaton's artificial, repetitive song with the real bird's authentic, emotional music. 
The Kintz-Mejia Academy of Ballet production of “The Emperor and the Nightingale” was first produced in 2015 with original choreography by Mark Mejia and music by Rienhold Gliere. Using classic ballet vocabulary and Chinese aesthetics, this story is conveyed through poetic imagery. In the choreographer's words, the moral message is about appreciating authenticity: Always seek a deeper truth and meaning. Don’t be easily impressed by what's loud and covered in gold.&nbsp;
Performances are on Saturday, June 6 at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, June 7 at 2:00 pm at Meridian High School, 121 Mustang Alley, Falls Church, VA 22043.
