Art Lloyd is a 71-year-old Brookland resident who has experience working in communities that are in need of special assistance.

WASHINGTON, DC — Art Lloyd is a 71-year-old Brookland resident who says he has the appropriate leadership and courage necessary to encourage young people in Ward 5 to pursue and accomplish their dreams.
Lloyd is on the ballot for the June 21 Democratic Party Primary. He's running against six other candidates to fill the vacant Ward 5 seat on the D.C. City Council: Kathy Henderson, Gordon "The People's Champion" Fletcher, Faith Gibson Hubbard, Zachary Parker, Gary To-To Johnson and Vincent Orange "VO". The winner will square off against Republican Clarence Lee Jr. in the Nov. 8 general election.
Ward 5's incumbent councilmember, Democrat Kenyan R. McDuffie, recently suspended his campaign for the D.C. Attorney General seat, according to The Washington Post.

Why are you seeking this office?
I have the appropriate leadership and courage necessary to encourage our young people to pursue and accomplish their dreams. To make opportunities available on every level so that those who have been left out of our society can overcome the institutional barriers and achieve their goals.

A need to increase knowledge and economic income in their communities.
What is your position on DC statehood?
DC deserves statehood just as every other state in our union, their is no reason to deny a full voting senator and congress person to the residents of D.C. other than the continued racial prejudice and biasness that we see in America today.
How would you address the problem of gun violence in the District?
I would propose a special investigating squad to seek out those bringing in guns and or ammunition to D.C. and set the penalties maximum of 10 years with no parole. (I am in favor of Law abiding citizens being allowed to purchase 1 handgun.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
I have years of experience working in communities that are in need of special assistance.
If you are challenging an incumbent, in what way has the current officeholder failed the community?
The incumbent is not running again, however I believe the community is in need of more vocational job training programs and a revision of our education programs for you the and adults.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
1).The re-establishment of mental health treatment centers, 2). Retraining of police officers in use of force for the mentally ill , and our youth, revise police entrance exams, to weed out racially biasness and increase police officers pay.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
- I have been president of the Takoma park DC homeowner. N.W.
- I was elected President of Oxford Manor tenants association S.E.
- Elected ANC 8A02 S.E. D.C. identified building with structural crack a danger to children playing - building repaired.
- Had Suitland parkway exit ,Howard rd S.E.
- Reconstructed after several car accidents
- Had rat abatement traps set up in sales place projects after several children bitten by rats.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
Do unto others as you would like others to do for you.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I am a servant for the community the only requirement is that you are a resident of the community.
