Capitals, Wizards Fans May Have Big Problems With Metro This Week

Playoff games will be happening while lots of work is taking place on Metro tracks.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Fans of the Washington Capitals and Wizards who plan to take the Metro to Capital One Arena on Thursday and Friday, be warned: the commute could be an ugly one.

Capital One Arena's Twitter account warned fans Thursday afternoon that riders hoping to get to and from the games (Capitals play Thursday, Wizards play Friday) would face multiple obstacles.

For one thing, the Yellow Line will be single-tracking at Huntington from 10 p.m. until closing, and for another, the Red, Orange, Blue, and Green lines all operate with 20 to 25 minute intervals between trains after 10 p.m. That means a very, very long wait for fans hoping to get home after the game.

Also, the Silver Line will operate between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston only from 10 p.m. until closing, so there will be even fewer trains available.

And that's to say nothing of the possibility of Thursday's game requiring overtime. Metro closes entirely at 11:30 p.m., which would leave thousands of fans stranded.
