Car Smashes Into Liquor Store in DC, Causes Gas Leak
Responders had to scramble to fix a dangerous gas leak after a crash in Northwest Monday afternoon.

WASHINGTON, DC — A large vehicle careened into a liquor store Monday afternoon in Northwest, causing structural damage and a gas leak that forced an evacuation.
D.C. Fire and EMS tweeted at 2:36 p.m. that a car had smashed into a store at the 5200 block of George Ave. NW. The store was not identified but appeared to be Hamilton Liquors. The vehicle appears to be a GMC Yukon or a similar make and model.
The tweet also noted that there was an "odor of gas" at the scene as firefighters checked for injuries and assessed structural damage to the building. The gas company was called to the scene, and three people were evacuated from the store and an adjacent apartment until the leak could be secured.
