Christmas 2017 In DC: What's Open, What's Closed

We've put together a handy guide of what's going to be open and closed in D.C. this holiday season.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Christmas is right around the corner, and so is New Year's, which means it is officially the most confusing time of year when it comes to what's open and what's closed.

Not to worry, however: we've created a handy list of what's open, what's closed this holiday season in D.C.

Government offices: Government offices will be closed on Christmas Day, Dec. 25. They will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 1.

Schools: Winter Break for D.C. students begins Christmas Day, Dec. 25 and continues through Tuesday, Jan. 2, with classes reconvening on Wednesday, Jan. 3.

Libraries: All libraries will be closed Sunday, Dec. 24, and Monday, Dec. 25. They will also be closed on Monday, Jan. 1.

Metro: "On Saturday, December 23, and Sunday, December 24, most Metrorail lines will run on a regular weekend schedule," WMATA said in a statement. "The only exception is the Red Line, where trains will run every 8-15 minutes as Metro's leak-mitigation project continues. Trains on the Orange, Blue, Silver, Green, and Yellow lines will operate on regular weekend schedules with no scheduled track work. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the Metrorail system will open at 8:00 a.m. and close at 11:00 p.m. Trains will operate on a Sunday schedule both days."

D.C. Department of Motor Vehicles: Closed Saturday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 25. Also closed Monday, Jan. 1.

Federal government: The federal government will be closed on Monday, Christmas Day, Dec. 25, as well as on Monday, New Year's Day, Jan. 1.
