Commanders Rookie Shot In D.C. During Robbery Or Carjacking Attempt
A rookie running back for the Washington Commanders was shot Sunday evening when he was the victim of a robbery or carjacking in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A rookie running back for the Washington Commanders was shot in Washington, D.C., on Sunday evening, the NFL franchise said.
In a statement, the team said Brian Robinson Jr. was the victim of an attempted robbery or carjacking. His injuries were not life-threatening, and he is receiving treatment at an area hospital.
The Metropolitan Police Department has not publicly announced any arrests or suspects involved in the robbery attempt.

Dustin Sternbeck, the director of communications for D.C.'s Metropolitan Police Department, told ESPN the shooting occurred in the 1000 block of H Street NE around 6 p.m. on Sunday. Sternbeck told reporters that police officers recovered a firearm at the scene and they have identified two possible suspects.

The suspects tried to steal Robinson's Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, NBC Washington reported.
Ron Rivera, the head coach for the Washington Commanders, visited Robinson in the hospital on Sunday night.
"He is in good spirits and wanted me to thank everyone for their kind words, prayers & support," Rivera wrote on Twitter. "He wants his teammates to know he appreciates them all for reaching out and he loves them all & will be back soon doing what he does best."
In a statement posted to social media, the franchise said other team officials have also visited Robinson at the hospital. The team asked that fans respect his privacy at this time.
In an update posted to Robinson's Instagram, he said underwent surgery. "Surgery went well! Thanks for the prayers," Robinson wrote.
The Commanders drafted Robinson in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He played college football at Alabama, where he won national championships in 2017 and 2020.
Robinson occupied the third half back slot on the Commander's depth chart. In the 2022 preseason, he rushed for 57 yards in 14 attempts across two games.
