Cool DC Area Map Shows What Languages Are Spoken in Your Neighborhood
Even among neighboring communities, the most common language (besides English and Spanish) can vary greatly.
A fascinating new map shows what languages are most commonly spoken in what parts of the D.C. area besides English and Spanish, and it shows just how much of a melting pot of cultures we are.
Created by Randy Smith, a GIS specialist at Hood College, the map uses census tract-level data from the American Community Survey, according to a DCist report.

Smith also created a graphic showing the most common languages in Virginia, Maryland and the District, broken down by county, which you can view here. In Virginia and Maryland, the most popular non-Spanish non-English languages vary a bit depending on the county. In the District, African Languages and French seems to lead the pack.
