Coping during corona virus on Maryland's Eastern Shore
How Marylanders on the eastern shore are coping with the deadly coronavirus. From rigging items to sitting on the rocks, life goes on.
Eastern Shore, Maryland
As of press time today, Maryland covid-19 cases are: number of confirmed cases: 8,936. Number of negative test results: 42,815. Number of Deaths: 262. Hospitalizations: 1,975. Cases on the eastern shore remain relatively low compared to Prince George's County, Howard County, Baltimore County, and Montgomery County. In Wicomico County 58 confirmed cases and one death, while Worcester County 21 confirmed cases and zero deaths.
The Eastern Shore's landscape, open wide spaces, rural area, and low density of residents keeps numbers low for this part of the state, but officials warn residents must stay vigilant and stay home. It's often tough to find things to do since sports, sporting events, water activities, dance recitals, and other activities are shut off. That's why when we found five Bishopville students from Cedar Creek Road zooming around their yard and street in what you can only describe from something out of the movie 'Back to the Future' caught our attention. The young men from Decatur High School and Wor Wic Community College rigged up this contraption and it works. The students said it was boredom that drove them to tinker. The Magee kids who live at the other end of the street, spent time on the family's trampoline and playing in the woods behind their house. At the Isle of Wright Nature Park, we found a bottle of wine, grapes, and a glass on the rocks. A local woman enjoying a spring day by herself looking over the Assawoman Bay.

With Ocean City's boardwalk, shops, and most restaurants closed (drive thru open at some food establishments) spring will soon turn into summer and locals are hoping things will get back to normal, but until then, you can always be creative like the kids on Cedar Creek Road in Bishopville, Maryland.
