Cyclist Struck, Killed Near National Mall (ICYMI)

Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver after the incident early Monday morning.

WASHINGTON, DC -- A cyclist who was struck by a hit-and-run driver near the National Mall early Monday has died from his injuries, according to a report.

DCist reports that 64-year-old Thomas Hendricks Hollowell of Arlington was hit by the driver of a dark-colored sedan that ran a red light at the intersection of 12th Street and Constitution Avenue NW.

The sedan reportedly was traveling at a high rate of speed and continued to drive without stopping after hitting Hollowell.

Hollowell was originally transported to a local hospital in critical condition, but he eventually succumbed to his injuries, reports DCist, citing the Metropolitan Police Department.

Fox 5 reports that the 1000 to 1300 blocks of Constitution Avenue NW and the 12th Street Tunnel were shut down as police investigated the scene Monday. They were later reopened.
