D.C. Fire and EMS personnel responded to the report of a kitchen fire in a one-story home in Shepherd Park
WASHINGTON, DC — D.C. firefighters extinguished a blaze that originated in the kitchen of a Shepherd Park home Friday afternoon, according to posts on the D.C. Fire and EMS Twitter account. No injuries were reported.
Units were dispatched Friday, March 6, around 1:16 p.m., to the report of fire in a one-story, detached private residence at 1455 Roxanna, Road, N.W.
"There was a fire in the kitchen, which was already extending into the attic space," said Vito Maggiolo, D.C. Fire and EMS public information officer.

At that point, the incident was upgraded to a working fire, which brought the total number of respondents to 12 pieces of equipment and about 50 personnel, according to Maggiolo.
"We were able go in and extinguish the fire, and confine it to the kitchen area and the attic to which it had extended," he said.

While no injuries were reported, one resident was evaluated by EMS but did not need to be transported to receive medical treatment. The residents had an alternate place to stay, so there was no need to contact the American Red Cross for assistance, according to Maggiolo.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
