Dave Chappelle, John Oliver Shout Out DC Public Schools At Emmys (Video)
The comedians successfully got #DCPublicSchools trending on Twitter Sunday night.

WASHINGTON, DC — If you checked Twitter last night, you might have been surprised to see that #DCPublicSchools was trending. Well, you can thank comedians Dave Chappelle and John Oliver for that.
D.C. Public Schools were unexpectedly thrust into the national spotlight during last night's Emmy Awards. It all started when Chappelle, a D.C. native, walked onto the stage with comedienne Melissa McCarthy to present an award. He immediately went off script, remarking that he had skipped rehearsal.
"Now I'm going to read this teleprompter, please forgive me," he said. "Shout out to D.C. public schools."

That wasn't the end of it. When comedian John Oliver came on stage to accept the award for best writing for HBO's "Last Week Tonight," he decided to echo Chappelle and also give a random shoutout to D.C. public schools, even though he grew up in Birmingham, England.
"Like Dave Chappelle, I would like to unexpectedly thank D.C. public schools, because I think it would be great if it started trending on Twitter for no reason whatsoever," he said. "So if you're tweeting about the Emmys at home, please use the hashtag DCPublicSchools."
