DC Bald Eagle Falls Out Of Nest: Report

WASHINGTON, DC -- Three months ago, thousands upon thousands watched as bald eaglet Valor emerged from his shell on the Bald Eagle Cam high atop the grounds of the U.S. National Arboretum in Northeast. Young Valor ended up on a sidewalk this week, but fortunately appears to be on the mend.

The three-month eaglet apparently slipped and fell from a branch of the nest tree and was discovered about six blocks away on a sidewalk, according to a Washington Post report. Its fall was caught on the eagle camera that monitors the nest 24/7.

The eaglet is the offspring of Mr. President and the First Lady, who return to the nest each year to lay eggs. Valor's sibling is Victory.

Wildlife officials intervened after Valor showed no signs of taking off on his own. The eaglet had no obvious injuries, and authorities will monitor him until he is ready to fly on his own. He'll be sent to a rehab center for birds in Delaware, the Post reports.
