DC Bank Robbery Suspect Images Released

A woman who held up a Bethesda Wells Fargo bank is also suspected of robbing two banks in Northwest Washington, D.C., in the past week.

BETHESDA, MD — Authorities on Tuesday released surveillance images of a woman accused of robbing a Wells Fargo bank in Bethesda on Saturday.

Montgomery County Police say the robbery occurred shortly before 1 p.m. at the bank located at 4965 Elm St. The suspect entered the bank, gave a note that demanded money to a teller, then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help identifying the woman and a $10,000 reward has been offered for tips in the case.

Police believe this suspect also robbed banks in Washington, D.C., on May 23 and May 27. The first DC robbery happened about 11 a.m. on May 23 at the Bank of America in the 4300 block of 49th Street, Northwest, while the May 27 robbery was reported at 11:23 a.m. at the Wells Fargo Bank in the 5200 block of MacArthur Boulevard, Northwest.

The suspect description from the Metropolitan Police Department is: a black female, 5’5” to 5'8" in height, medium to dark complexion, with a medium build in her 20s with shoulder length, twisted black hair. In the second DC robbery the woman wore a black, straight wig with bangs.

She was described as wearing a black sport coat over a white collar shirt, black pants, and carrying a black and gray backpack in the first robbery, while donning black framed oval shaped sunglasses, a button down greenish yellow dress, and carrying a beige colored purse with braided straps in the second holdup.

Anyone with information about the suspect’s identity is asked to contact the Montgomery County Police Department at 240-773-5070.

To be eligible for a reward, tipsters may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of this suspect. Tipsters will remain anonymous.
