DC Coronavirus Update: New Coronavirus Cases Double In 1 Day
D.C. Department of Health confirmed 322 new positive cases of COVID-19 in the District — more than double the new cases reported Wednesday.

WASHINGTON, DC — D.C. Department of Health 322 new positive cases of COVID-19, the illness associated with the new coronavirus, on Thursday. That's more than double the 157 reported on Wednesday. This brings the District's total number of positive cases to date to 22,164.
D.C. Health also confirmed two new deaths in the District due to COVID-19 on Thursday. The deaths are described as a 39-year-old man 61-year-old man.
The total number of deaths in the District stands at 692.

According to D.C. Health, 709,991 coronavirus tests have been administered in the District, 311,349 residents have been tested, and 16,268 have been cleared from isolation.
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced Wednesday the District was leading the country in its testing of its citizens. D.C. recorded the highest seven-day average per capita of COVID-19 testing rate in the U.S., when compared to other jurisdictions.

“We know how important a robust and widely accessible testing system is toward containing the virus and ensuring the health and safety of our residents, workers, and visitors,” Bowser said, in a release. “We are incredibly grateful to our frontline medical workers and all those who have made our testing program a national model.”
The District currently has 53 intensive care unit beds available out of 345 total intensive care unit beds. There are currently 184 in-use ventilators and 256 available. Also, there are 49 COVID-19-positive ICU patients.

Globally, more than 64.6 million people have been infected by COVID-19, and over 1.4 million people have died, Johns Hopkins University reported Thursday morning. In the United States, more than 13.7 million people have been infected and over 270,000 people have died from COVID-19.

District residents should take the following actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if soap and water are not available.
- Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
