MLK Day 2018 In DC: What's Open, What's Closed

The second federal holiday of 2018 is upon us. Here's what's going to be open and what's going to be closed in our area.

On Monday, Jan. 15, we honor one of the greatest figures in American history: civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

MLK Day is a federal holiday, which means most public facilities will be closed, but not necessarily all of them. Here's a quick breakdown of what's open and what's closed in the District.

Schools: Closed

Libraries: Closed

DMV: Closed (also closed Satruday, Jan. 13)

Government offices: Closed

Courts: Closed

Metro: According to a WMATA statement:

Metrorail: The rail system will open at 5 a.m. and close at midnight. Trains will operate on a Saturday schedule every 12 minutes with no track work scheduled. Off-peak fares will be in effect all day, and parking will be free at all Metro-operated facilities.

Metrobus: Buses will operate on a Saturday supplemental schedule, with some late-night (post-midnight) trips canceled on selected routes. For details, please check the bus timetable for your route.

MetroAccess: Service will operate normal hours. However, subscription trips will be canceled unless specifically requested.

In addition, Metro's customer information call center will be closed Monday in observance of the holiday. Automated information is available 24/7 by calling (202) 637-7000.
