DC Mayor Brutally Burns Donald Trump

Mayor Muriel Bowser used reports of a military parade in D.C. to take a shot at the president.

WASHINGTON, DC -- D.C. Mayor Muriel Browser landed quite the zinger on President Trump after reports surfaced that he wanted a big military parade to show off the fearsome arsenal of the United States.

Asked by WAMU reporter Martin Austermuhle what role D.C. would play in organizing such a parade, Bowser's spokeswoman replied: "We’re tracking media reports and will have more to say when formal outreach begins. We do know that just like the wall, he will have to pay for it."

The spokeswoman is referring to Trump's repeated promises during his campaign that Mexico would pay for a border wall that would cost billions of dollars. It now appears that Trump plans to break that promise by trying to allocate a huge sum of American taxpayers' money for the wall in this year's budget.

Reports that Trump wanted a military parade in D.C. has earned praise from his supporters and alarm from his critics, who say such a demonstration calls to mind the military displays of totalitarian regimes like in North Korea.

It is not completely without precedent: there was a National Victory Celebration in D.C. following the 1991 Gulf War. Of course, there is no similar end to a war to celebrate this time around. It's also not clear when Trump would want to hold the parade, but top leadership is hard at work developing a plan, according to reports.
