DC Memorial Day Weather Forecast: Here's What To Expect

Will it be sunny and beautiful, or stormy and wet? Here's the full breakdown for Memorial Day Weekend.

WASHINGTON, DC -- The Memorial Day Weekend is here, and that means the unofficial start to summer -- which also means backyard barbecues, pool parties, and other outdoor festivities. But will the weather cooperate in D.C.?

As it turns out, there's both good and bad news if you're hoping for some sunny and beautiful weather in the area. The bad news: there is a chance of showers and storms on all three days of this extended weekend. The good news: they'll be hit and miss, and Memorial Day itself has the lowest chance of storms, according to the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang.

Those storms could be strong and fierce, however, unleashing heavy rain and even some lightning, so you should be constantly monitoring the forecast. But so far, it doesn't look like outdoor plans need to be cancelled.

One thing to keep in mind is that the ground is still saturated from all this rain we have gotten, so any amount of rain that comes this weekend will bring the risk of flash flooding.

On Saturday, the chance of storms will be as high as 40 percent, with rain most likely in the mid to late afternoon. Temperatures could soar to close to 90 degrees -- and it will be humid, unfortunately, making it feel closer to 95.

Sunday's chances of storms surges to 60 percent, although temperatures are a few degrees milder than the day before. Once again, those storms are most likely in the mid afternoon to the early evening, CWG says.

Monday storm chances drop to around 30 percent, and again the most likely time is the afternoon -- specifically, between 12 and 6 p.m., CWG predicts. Humidity still won't be great, but it actually won't be too bad, with temps in the mid-80s.
