DC Officer Seriously Injured At Traffic Stop; 1 Man Arrested

Police arrested one suspect and are seeking another in connection with the Friday night assault on a police officer during a traffic stop.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Metropolitan Police Department detectives from the Sixth District arrested Dionte Rogers, 19, of Northeast, D.C., in connection with an Assault on a Police Officer (Felony) offense that took place Friday in the Deanwood area, according to a police release.

During a traffic stop on Jan. 10, around 6 p.m., in the area of Benning Road and Minnesota Avenue Northeast, the operator of a stolen vehicle not involved in the initial traffic stop struck an officer from the Sixth District. The officer suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The stolen vehicle, which fled the scene, was recovered nearby and responding officers took one subject into custody. Officers arrested Rogers and charged him with Assault on a Police Officer (Felony), Leaving After Colliding (Personal Injury), Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and Counterfeit Tags.

Another suspect remains at-large and the case is still under investigation.
