DC Police investigate Early Morning Traffic Fatality

D.C. Police are investigation an early morning collision in the Lincoln Park area that left one person dead.

WASHINGTON, DC — Metropolitan Police Department detectives from the Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating a traffic fatality that took place early Monday morning near Lincoln Park, according to a police release.

Following a preliminary investigation, MPD reported that a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed around 12:36 a.m. and crashed into another vehicle between the intersection of 11th Street and Independence Avenue, S.E. Following the crash, the two occupants from the first vehicle fled the scene on foot. A passenger, whom police have not identified, was pronounced dead on the scene and was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The case remains under investigation.
