DC Police Officer Dies After Suffering Medical Emergency

A Metropolitan Police Department officer died while on duty Monday, after suffering from a non-coronavirus-related medical emergency.

WASHINGTON, DC — A 23-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department died Monday after suffering a medical emergency while on duty, according to a police release. The officer's death was not related to the new coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. MPD is withholding the officer's name out of respect to his family.

“Our hearts are heavy this evening as we mourn the loss of a beloved husband, father, friend and MPD member," MPD Chief Peter Newsham said, in the release. "We grieve with the officers family but also find strength knowing he made a positive impact on others.”
