DC Ramping Up Security at Gay Pride Festival Sunday After Orlando Attack

Police are stepping up security at the Capital Pride Festival after dozens were killed at a gay club in Florida.

The attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla. will result in increased security at Sunday's Capital Pride Festival in the District, the mayor said in a tweet.

The shooting, which happened in the early hours of Sunday morning at the nightclub Pulse in Orlando, comes just a day after the Capital Pride Parade was held in downtown D.C.

Mayor Muriel Bowser issued a statement after the attacks, saying that she had been "briefed by MPD Chief Cathy Lanier about increased security measures," adding that "we will not be deterred by hate as we gather to celebrate love."
