DC Ranked One of the Best Running Cities

Runner's World says that Rock Creek Park and miles upon miles of trails separate D.C. from other cities.

WASHINGTON, DC — Runner's World Magazine has just named Washington, D.C. the 5th best place in the country to go running out of 250 U.S. cities -- and it's not hard to see why.

The magazine ranked the cities based on five criteria: parks, climate, food, safety and the run itself. Basically, they were looking for cities with temperate climates, abundant routes, plenty of trails, a good local running scene and "maybe some good company," the magazine stated.

After considering all those criteria, the magazine placed Washington, D.C. at fifth in the country, just behind San Diego but ahead of Portland. San Francisco was No. 1, followed by Seattle and Boston.

Runner's Wolrd was impressed with "seemingly endless trails" as well as numerous specialty running stores and unique clubs in the region. And you can't forget the fact that you can run in the shadow of such awe-inspiring buildings as the White House, U.S. Capitol, Jefferson Memorial and the Washington Monument.

But it's Rock Creek Park that the magazine states is truly special about the D.C. region, with its tree-covered trails and bike paths that offer an escape from the hustle and bustle.
