OpenTable chose its list based on ratings by diners. The 2016 list "highlights restaurants that offer stunning views, regional cuisine and, above all, fabulous outdoor dining experiences," the site states. "The list of honorees is determined after analyzing more than 5 million reviews of more than 20,000 restaurants across the nation -- all submitted by verified diners."

Iron Gate reopened in November 2013 under Executive Chef Anthony Chittum. The restaurant has quite a history: it was the oldest continuously operating restaurant until the recent closure, and the building was once used as stables by Gen. Nelson Miles, a cavalry officer int he Civil War who later became Secretary of the Army.
