This DC Snow Map Is Just Embarrassing
Baton Rouge, Charleston, and Atlanta have all gotten more snow than our area.

WASHINGTON, DC -- We recently showed you the "snow hole" over the D.C. area during the latest storm, but it's been there all season, apparently. An incredible map, embedded below, shows just how snow-unlucky (or lucky, depending on your point of view) we have been this winter so far.
The D.C. area has recorded just 3.1 inches more than halfway through January, meaning that cities like Baton Rouge, Charleston, and Atlanta have recorded higher snowfall totals than us.
That's right, Charleston -- where the average high in January is 60 degrees, according to the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang -- had more snow than D.C. A lot more in fact, with 5.3 inches recorded so far.

What's happening is storms are just missing us. "They swing to our north, glide by to the south, cut to our west and skirt to our east," CWG writes. "If there’s a way for them to miss, they find that way."
Historically, we tend to get dustings in D.C., with CWG noting that more than 63 percent of snows in our area since the 1800s have been less than two inches.

And with temperatures expected to soar in the coming days, our chances for significant snowfall this winter are tumbling, especially since January looked to be the most promising month for snow when meteorologists made their predictions in the fall.
But, there's still a lot of winter left to go. So don't give up hope yet, snowbirds.
