DC United Lands English Star Wayne Rooney
The Everton forward, who made his mark with Manchester United, is headed to D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC -- D.C. United have just scored the splash of the summer in Major League Soccer, inking English star Wayne Rooney to a two-and-a-half-year deal worth $13 million.
Rooney's list of accomplishments is long. He is the top all-time scorer for Manchester United and the England national team, he's won five Premier League titles, and he won a Champions League title over his career.
Rooney, now 32, joined the Everton youth team at the age of 9 and made his debut in 2002. He moved to Manchester United in 2004 where he scored 253 goals in all competitions before being sent back to his boyhood club of Everton last year. Rather than continue to play for them, Rooney has decided to make his mark in the United States with D.C. United.

While Rooney still had a year left on his contract with Everton, newly appointed manager Marco Silva said he would not stand in his way if Rooney wanted to leave.
Rooney's arrival will certainly make the grand opening of the club's new home at Audi Field special. United will play the New England Revolution on July 14, just a few days after Rooney would be eligible to play for an MLS team.
