DC, VA Air Quality Alert: Code Orange Issued Again Due To Heat
The air quality in parts of Northern Virginia and D.C may be harmful Thursday for people with some health issues, according to officials.
WASHINGTON, DC — A "code orange" air quality alert is in effect Thursday for parts of Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.
The National Weather Service is forecasting heat index values as high as 102 on Thursday. There is also a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m.
The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments issues a "code orange" alert when pollution concentrations may be unhealthy for sensitive groups. Children, older adults, heart/lung disease sufferers and asthmatics are considered sensitive.

To minimize the effects from the air quality, officials urge people in sensitive groups to avoid outdoor and strenuous activities.
This is the second day in a row MWCOG issued a code orange air quality alert for the D.C. area.

The D.C. area will stay hot and humid Friday, with similar conditions in the forecast for Saturday.
