DC Woman Beats Boyfriend To Death While High On 'Love Boat': U.S. Attorney

A DC woman pled guilty to beating her boyfriend to death with a baseball bat while she was high on the street drug "Love Boat."

WASHINGTON, DC — A DC woman pled guilty Friday for fatally beating her boyfriend with a baseball bat while she was high on a street drug at her apartment in Northeast Washington, U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips announced.

Thomasine Bennett, 67, pled guilty to a charge of voluntary manslaughter of Walter M. Clark, 63.

On the afternoon of Feb. 17, police were called to investigate trouble at an apartment in the 700 block of 21st Street NE. Upon arrival, officers found Clark unconscious and unresponsive inside a hallway closet with multiple bruises to the body, Phillips said.

Clark was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy determined Clark died from multiple blunt force trauma.

Bennett met police officers when they arrived at the apartment and told them her boyfriend was in the back. Investigators quoted Bennett saying that she beat Clark with a baseball bat over the last day and a half, Phillips said. She was arrested and has been in custody ever since.

Bennett also told officers that Clark made her smoke "Love Boat" the previous night. According to online reports, Love Boat is marijuana dipped in a toxic chemical known to cause severe brain damage and even death.
