DTLR Presents $20,000 Donation for D.C.-Area Families in Need
DTLR presented the donation – which provided holiday shopping sprees to 20 local families – to Be The Village and District Motherhued®

On Dec. 12, DTLR, one of the country's most successful lifestyle retailers with over 240 stores in 19 states, presented a $20,000 check to nonprofits Be The Village and District Motherhued® to benefit less fortunate families this holiday season. The funds, which were donated by DTLR and Adidas, were given to 20 Washington, D.C.-area families in the form of $1,000 Visa gift cards for each family to enjoy a holiday shopping spree. Be The Village and District Motherhued® identified the local families in need who received the gift cards.
Be The Village DMV supports working mothers by helping to close the maternity leave gap often experienced in the U.S. Be The Village believes that by alleviating some of the stressors that come along with the increased responsibility of mothering infants and getting back to work, they are helping to support the mental and emotional well being of new moms, ultimately developing stronger mothers and well-nurtured babies.
Established in August 2016 by Nikki Osei-Barrett and Simona Noce Wright, District Motherhued® is the premiere 501(c)(3) dedicated to millennial mothers of color in DC, MD, VA (and friends) with national support and acclaim. Noticing the lack of representation amidst local mom groups, they sought to create a regional community for millennial moms resembling themselves. Recent philanthropic efforts include the Hurricane Harvey Giveback, Kassandra’s Donation and Diaper Brigade, Distance Learning Support Box and The Christmas Project.
