WASHINGTON, DC — D.C. homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting early Sunday of 33-year-old Shawn Minor, of Forestville, Maryland, according to a police release.

At the time of his death, Minor was wearing a uniform and working as an on-duty Special Police Officer, according to police.

Officers from the Seventh District Station responded around 12:23 a.m., to the 2500 block of Elvans Road, Southeast, for the report of the sound of gunshots, according to police. They found Minor there, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

D.C. Fire and EMS examined Minor and determined that he had died from his injuries. They later took him to the Office of the Chief Medical Officer.

A special police officer is a member of a private law enforcement agency that is authorized by the D.C. government to provide security and protection throughout the District.

Metropolitan Police Department is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for anyone who supplies information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any person responsible for a homicide in the District.
