As Election Suspense Builds, Hundreds at White House: 'F--- Donald Trump'

College students and other voters gather near the White House as election results put a Trump victory within reach.

WASHINGTON, DC — As Election Day creeped into the early morning hours Wednesday, hundreds of college students and other voters — many angry and disappointed as results came in — took their frustrations to the gates of the White House. It's a spot that has been known to evoke equal measures of calm reverence and rowdy activism.

With election results putting a Donald Trump presidency within reach, voters came together in the same spot where groups have gathered in solidarity after terrorist attacks or in celebration after the Supreme Court ruling on marriage equality.

In the early hours Wednesday, the mood was rage and frustration from Clinton voters and shock and excitement from those who supported for Trump.

Early in the evening, as the Washington Post points out, supporters of Hillary Clinton came to the gates of the White House to celebrate a historic election victory, but the mood turned as Trump won each of the do-or-die states that seemed so far out of his reach just hours earlier.

As several hundred changed "F--- Donald Trump," the Post notes that Trump supporters came out in force to celebrate their seeming victory with their own chant: “Build that wall! Build that wall!”
