Fatal Collision Between Scooter, SUV Investigated: Police
D.C. Police are investigation a fatal collision that occurred Tuesday afternoon between a scooter and an SUV.
WASHINGTON, DC — Metropolitan Police Department detectives from the Major Crash Investigations Unite are investigating a fatal crash that took place Tuesday afternoon in Randle Highlands, according to a police release. MPD has not released the identity of the decedent.
Following a preliminary investigation, officers determined that around 1:55 p.m., the driver of a 2019 Kymco gas powered scooter was heading southbound in the 1700 block of 25th Street, S.E. The scooter went around several vehicles that had stopped for a stop sign and entered the Naylor Road intersection. The scooter was struck by a 2001 Ford Expedition that was traveling northbound in the 2500 block of Naylor Road. D.C. Fire and EMS transported the scooter driver to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
