Update: Victim Identified In Buena Vista Fatal Hit And Run
D.C. Police are investigating a fatal hit and run that occurred Wednesday night in the Buena Vista area.
UPDATE (Feb. 28, 8:45 a.m.) : The Metropolitan Police Department has identified the victim in the Wednesday, Feb. 26, fatal hit-and-run incident in Buena Vista as Derek Anthony Burke Jr., 34, of Southeast.
WASHINGTON, DC — Metropolitan Police Department detectives are investigating a fatal hit and run involving a pedestrian that occurred Wednesday night in the Buena Vista area, according to a police release.
On Wednesday, Feb. 26, around 8:42 p.m., a vehicle traveling north in the 2400 block of Alabama Ave., S.E., ran over a pedestrian who was rolling in the roadway. The vehicle left the scene before police arrived. D.C. Fire and EMS took the pedestrian to a nearby hospital, but all life-saving efforts failed and the vicim was pronounced dead.

The identity of the decedent is being withheld pending notification of family.
