Girl Hit By Stray Bullet In Northeast DC Dies At Hospital: Police
Jamahri Sydnor, 17, was shot as she drove through Northeast Washington Thursday and succumbed to her injuries in the hospital Saturday.
WASHINGTON, DC — A 17-year-old female who was shot as she drove through Northeast Washington last week has died, police announced Sunday.
Jamahri Sydnor, of Northeast, was driving in the 1400 block of Saratoga Ave. on Thursday when she was shot at about 3:32 p.m., police said.
Arriving officers found an adult male and Sydnor suffering from gunshot wounds. Sydnor was taken to an area hospital and succumbed to her injuries Saturday, police told Patch.

Sydnor recently graduated Woodrow Wilson High School in Northwest. She was captain of her school's cheerleading squad and a member of the choir, NBC Washington reports. She was set to start college at Florida A&M within a few days.

Police arrested Phillip Carlos McDaniel, 21, of Northeast Thursday and charged him with Assault with Intent to Kill. Appropriate upgraded charges are pending against the defendant, police said.

"We have young men that go out there and they feel like they can resolve disputes with a firearm. What we had here is we had an innocent person that was caught up in that," Peter Newsham, Chief of Police, said Friday.
