Here's How to Recycle Your Christmas Tree in DC
It's after New Year's, so it's time to ditch your Christmas tree, and here's a way to do it responsibly.

WASHINGTON, DC — The holidays are over, and the time has come to toss that Christmas tree before it becomes a fire hazard -- or at least before it becomes a painful reminder that it's back to the daily grind.
But before tossing it in the dumpster, consider a more environmentally friendly way of disposing of your (real) Christmas tree. Here's what you can do in the District.
You can deposit your Christmas tree -- stripped free of all decorations, stands, bags and other foreign objects -- on the curb in front of your home through Jan. 27, and the city will turn the trees into compost. After Jan. 27, the tree will be collected as trash.

If you live in an apartment building with four or more units, they are required to provide you with disposal of holiday trees, according to the D.C. Department of Public Works.
DPW requests that residents not place the trees in plastic or cloth bags.
