Ice Yards Returns To DC For A Day Of Winter-Themed Fun

The Yards in Southeast D.C. is holding its Ice Yards event on Saturday, Feb. 26. The day will include a snowboard simulator and ax-throwing.

WASHINGTON, DC — The Yards in Southeast D.C. is holding its Ice Yards celebration on Saturday, Feb. 26 that will include iceless curling, a snowboard simulator and ax-throwing, along with live music and drinks. This is the eighth year of the event.

The Yards, an Anacostia River waterfront community, is also partnering with Special Olympics DC to host a Polar Plunge fundraiser during the Ice Yards celebration.

For the Polar Plunge, participants will take the plunge in an above-ground swimming pool on the boardwalk. The Polar Plunge supports more than 2,500 D.C.-based athletes with year-round sports training and the opportunity to compete in the Special Olympics DC Games.

The celebration will take place in Yards Park, along the Anacostia River at 355 Water Street SE from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 26.

Tickets for the Ice Yards event can be purchased through Eventbrite and include a drink ticket and a donation to Special Olympics DC. Ice Yards is a 21 and over event. Special Olympics has a website where the public can sign up to participate in the Polar Plunge.

The Yards is just west of the Washington Navy Yard and east of Nationals Park. It is served by the Navy Yard–Ballpark Metro station on the Green Line.
