Laurel Man Charged In July Homicide In DC: Police
D.C. homicide detectives charged a Laurel, Maryland man Wednesday in connection with a July 26 fatal shooting in Washington Highlands.
WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department arrested a Laurel, Maryland man Wednesday in connection with a July 26 fatally shooting in Washington Highlands, according to a police release.
Around 2:49 a.m., officers from the Seventh District responded for the report of the sound of gunshots in the 800 block of Chesapeake Street, S.E. They found an adult man inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound, in the 4200 block of 7th Street, S.E. D.C. Fire and EMS determined the victim did not show signs consistent with life and later transported him to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
MPD identified the decedent as Keith Rawlings, 23, of Glenarden, Maryland.

Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, members of the Major Violator Section’s Fugitive Unit on Wednesday transported Kyree Fields, 23, of Laurel, Maryland, to the Homicide Branch. Detectives charged Fields with first degree murder while armed. He was arrested previously on two separate occasions for felon in possession of a firearm.
