Major Traffic Closures This Weekend Throughout DC, Arlington

Getting around in the District and Arlington may be a little bit difficult this weekend, depending on where you're going.

A number of events on both Saturday and Sunday will result in road closures in downtown D.C., Clarendon and Shirlington, so plan accordingly.

In D.C., an Emancipation Day Parade has been scheduled for Saturday, and that will mean closures in the heart of downtown from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. for a festival and fireworks display. A few blocks away near Indiana Avenue NW, roads will be shut down from 9:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. for the parade setup, and the parade will shut down portions of Pennsylvania Avenue from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., police announced in a statement.

Meanwhile, the 2016 Arlington Festival of the Arts will result in road closures in Clarendon on both Saturday and Sunday. Roads around Highland Street will be closed for 41 straight hours -- from 4:00 a.m. on Saturday all the way through 9:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Arlington police will also be closing roads near Shirlington on Sunday for the Carnival de Oruro Parade, mostly around Four Mile Run Drive.

Street parking will be restricted, so pay close attention to "No Parking" signs -- police will ticket you or even tow your vehicle.

D.C., Emancipation Day Parade (April 16):

Truck Touch & Rock Vote Festival/Concert/Fireworks Display – The following streets will be closed from approximately 7:30 am to 12:00 am:

• E Street, NW, from 14th Street to 13th Street, NW
• Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, from 14th Street to 12th Street, NW
• 13th Street, NW, from E Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

Parade Set-Up – The following streets will be closed from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm:

• Indiana Avenue, NW, from 7th Street to 3rd Street, NW
• 6th Street, NW, from D Street to C Street, NW

Parade – The following streets will be closed from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm (Parade hours 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm)

• Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, from 14th Street to 4th Street, NW
• All streets crossing Pennsylvania Avenue from 14th Street to 4th Street will be closed between E Street & Constitution Avenue, NW

Arlington, 2016 Arlington Festival of the Arts (April 16-17):

• Westbound Washington Blvd. will be closed from N. Garfield St. to Clarendon Blvd.
• N. Highland St. will be closed from Clarendon Blvd. to Washington Blvd.
• N.11th St. between N. Highland and N. Garfield Streets will be open to delivery traffic only.

Closures will be in effect from 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16 through 9:00 p.m. Sunday, April 17.

Arlington, Carnival de Oruro Parade (April 17):

• Right lane of southbound Shirlington Rd. near S. Four Mile Run Dr. will be closed from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Access through side streets will be allowed.
• Westbound lanes of S. Four Mile Run Dr. will be closed from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Westbound traffic will be directed to Arlington Mill Dr.
• Right lane of northbound S. Walter Reed Dr. North of Four Mile Run Dr. will be closed from 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Access to side streets will be allowed.
