WASHINGTON, DC — Bernard Coleman III, who was awaiting sentencing for voluntary manslaughter, escaped Sunday from St. Elizabeths Hospital, according to a Metropolitan Police Department release.

MPD is asking the public's help in locating Coleman, who they describe as a 27-year-old Black male, standing 6-feet in height, weighing approximately 145 pounds, with a medium complexion. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Coleman pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter on Dec. 17, 2019, in connection with the March 2017 fatal shooting of his father, Bernard Coleman, 43, of Southeast, according to an MPD spokeswoman.

Anyone with information about Coleman's whereabouts is asked to call MPD at 202-727-9099. Anonymous information may be submitted via text to 50411. MPD and the U.S. Marshals Service are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to Coleman's capture.
