Man Fatally Shot On Howard University Campus In D.C.: Police

Police said the shooting happened around 6 a.m. Thursday during an attempted robbery.

WASHINGTON, DC — A man was fatally shot early Thursday morning on the Howard University campus in Washington, D.C.

According to D.C. police, the shooting happened in the 600 block of Bryant Street Northwest around 6 a.m. Nearby officers responded to the area where they found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.

DC Fire and EMS took the man to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

During a news conference Thursday, D.C. Police Department Cmdr. James Boteler said the shooting likely happened during an attempted robbery. Boteler said the shooting was not related to the college, and there is no ongoing threat to the campus.

Authorities said the suspect got into a white SUV following the shooting and fled south on Georgia Avenue.
