Man Gets In DC Councilmember's Face Over Parking Job (Video)

The man was upset that D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans was idling in a no-parking zone in Georgetown.

WASHINGTON, DC -- An angry D.C. resident confronted D.C. Councilmember Jack Evans over idling in a no-parking zone in Georgetown this weekend, and it was all captured on video (embedded below).

A Reddit user posted the video to the r/washingtondc subreddit on Saturday in a post titled, "VIDEO: I asked Jack Evans why he parks illegally. His responses won't surprise you."

The user, "Ueatsoap," acknowledged in the comments that he realized councilmembers are allowed to park illegally but it "doesn't make it right." The post has gotten nearly 300 upvotes and has 137 comments as of Wednesday morning.

The Washingtonian reports that the man's name is Eric Kmetz, and Evans' car was parked at the corner of 32nd and Q streets Northwest. He noticed the car while walking to the post office.

“I shared a photo on social media and continued on. It was on my way home that I saw Councilman Evans sitting in his car, reading a magazine,” Kmetz says according to the Washingtonian.

The video, which lasts about a minute, shows Kmetz approaching Evans and then asking him about his parking choices. Evans responds by asking him why he cares, prompting Kmetz to point out that if he parked that way he would get a ticket. Evans shoots back that by parking illegally, he "opens up a spot for you."

The post sparked vigorous debate on the subreddit.

"Of all the things to get outraged about in this world, a politician parking illegally is pretty far down my list right now," wrote user wydog89.

However, user Miracow disagreed.

"It's not just about this single case," the user wrote. "It's this kinda mindset that lets politicians get away with a bunch of illegal things. Just yesterday I saw a video on Reddit of some councilman In Arizona trying to tell a cop he was allowed to drive at speeds of up to 120 mph. No one is saying the world is ending because of this it's just a d*** move and most people are annoyed to see someone get away with something just because they hold public office."

Jack Evans has represented Ward 2, which includes Georgetown, since 1991. He is the longest serving member of the D.C. Council.
