WASHINGTON, DC — A man was shot and killed Sunday outside Nationals Park, according to police.

Authorities responded about 1 p.m. to the 1500 block of South Capitol Street Southeast, where they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle, police said, noting the victim was pronounced dead at the scene and is believed to have been targeted by the shooter. A dark-colored SUV was recorded speeding away from the area after the shooting, according to police.

The Nationals ended their season earlier in the month, but Nationals Park was being used Sunday for a golfing event, according to the venue’s website. The park is also surrounded by restaurants and hotels, and patrons of area businesses scattered amid the gunfire Sunday, according to The Washington Post.
