Massive Rainstorm Will Pound DC Friday: Reports

Forecasters expect D.C. to get pounded with as much as 6 inches of rain Friday and into as late as Sunday.

WASHINGTON, DC — A massive rainstorm is getting set to hammer the D.C. area on Friday and into as late as Sunday, bringing up to 6 inches of rain in some parts.

The Capital Weather Gang states that a "long duration, heavy rain event has become increasingly likely" for the entire D.C. area from Friday through Saturday night, and it could even linger into Sunday.

That means some low-lying areas could see significant flooding, although some pockets will be hit much harder than others.

The Capital Weather Gang called it a "very unusual storm system" for this time of year, and added it was more reminiscent of a Nor'easter. Pockets of 6 to 7 inches of rain are extreme, and are the equivalent of 60 to 70 inches of snow if it were winter.

So it is probably best to hunker down and avoid going out and about for the next couple days if you can help it.
