MD Man Charged In Garfield Heights Fatal Shooting: Police
D.C. Police arrested at Capitol Heights man in connection with the May 24 fatal shooting of Kayvon Kinney of Southeast.
WASHINGTON, DC — Homicide detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that took place May 24 in Garfield Heights, according to a police release. Police identified the deceased victim as Kayvon Kinney, 26, of Southeast.
Officers from the Seventh District responded around 1:25 a.m., to the 1800 block of Gainesville Street, S.E., for the report of a shooting. They found Kinney unconscious and suffering from gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and EMS determined Kinney displayed no signs of life, and he was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant on Monday, July 6, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Michael Austin, 25, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, and charged him with second degree murder while armed.
