MD Man Dies From Injuries Received In Congress Heights Double Shooting

WASHINGTON, DC — D.C. homicide detectives are looking for a suspect in the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Alphonzo Jones, of Temple Hills, Maryland, on Sunday night in the Congress Heights area, according to a police release.

Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Seventh District responded around 6:01 p.m., on Sunday, to the 1300 block of Savannah Street, Southeast for the sounds of gunshots. Once there, they found Jones and another man suffering from gunshot wounds.

D.C. Fire & EMS examined Jones and determined that he had died. They later took him to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The other victim was taken to an area hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at 202-727-9099. Anonymous tips may be submitted via the department's text tip line by texting a message to 50411.

MPD is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 for anyone who supplies information that leads to the arrest and conviction of any person responsible for a homicide in the District.
