'Mean Girls' Musical to Premiere in DC in Fall 2017

Comedian Tina Fey is behind the theater adaptation of the 2004 film.

WASHINGTON, DC — It's been 12 years since the hit movie Mean Girls was unleashed on the world, launching Lindsey Lohan to stardom, and now a musical version of the film will be making its premiere right here in D.C. next fall.

It's been public knowledge that the Mean Girls theater adaptation would be coming at some point for a few years, but now we know that the musical -- which is being created by Tina Fey, who was a screenwriter for the film -- will debut here in the nation's capital next fall.

A new Twitter account, @MeanGirlsDC, which has already been verified by Twitter, tweeted Monday that the "Mean Girls musical is coming to Washington, D.C. Fall of 2017," without saying which theater would get the honor or what the exact date would be.

But there's a good chance opening night is Oct. 3. After all, that's when this tweet went out, and the date has special significance for Mean Girls fans, as it's the day that Aaron Samuels asked Cady Heron for a date in the film.
