Meet Eboni-Rose Thompson, Candidate For State Board Of Education

WASHINGTON, DC — In addition to voting for president and vice president of the United States in the Nov. 3 general election, voters in Washington, D.C., will choose a delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives; at-large member of the D.C. Council; member of the D.C. Council for wards 2, 4, 7 and 8; U.S. senator; U.S. representative; at-large member of the State Board of Education; member of the State Board of Education for wards 2, 4, 7, and 8; and Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner.

Eboni-Rose Thompson is a 33-year-old portfolio manager for the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation. She is running for the Ward 7 seat on the State Board of Education.

The single most pressing issue facing Ward 7 is is a lack of a comprehensive plan for education, and this is what I intend to do about it.

As a member of the State Board of Education, I would work with my colleagues to lead a community process that uses data from the census to decide where schools and programs should go to best serve all of children.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

The critical difference between me and the other candidates is action and experience. I have worked for the last 8 years as chair of the Ward 7 Education Council to work with families, educators, and community members to improve Ward 7 Schools. For example, in last year's city budget, through the Ward 7 Education Council, we successfully pushed for an additional $15 million that went to schools East of the River.
