The plane safely returned to Andrews Air Force Base on Wednesday morning.

ANDREWS AIR FORCE BASE, MD -- The First Lady is safe after her plane had to turn around when "billowing" smoke and a burning smell filled the cabin, according to a report.
People Magazine reports that the smoke and smell was detected shortly after takeoff from Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, and the plane safely landed back at the base.
A reporter on the plane wrote in the pool report that a member of the flight crew passed out damp washcloths to the passengers. Another report indicated that a malfunctioning "comms unit" may have been the culprit, according to the report.
