Men Jump Out of Car With AK-47s in DC, Alarming New Photos Show

The men robbed an armored car employee and then fled in a getaway vehicle, ditching the bag later, police say.

WASHINGTON, DC — An alarming pair of photos released by the Metropolitan Police Department show two men armed with AK-47 assault rifles exiting a car on their way to rob an armored car in Northwest on Wednesday.

Police are seeking a third man who they believe acted as the getaway driver in what appears to be a black Dodge or Chrysler sedan, according to a report from the Metropolitan Police Department.

The robbery took place in the 5400 block of 5th Street at around 11:47 a.m. as an employee of an armored car service walked to an establishment with an empty currency bag. The two suspects approached the employee with the assault rifles and ordered the employee onto the ground, taking the bag and then fleeing in the vehicle, the report states.

Officers later recovered the bag in the 300 block of Kennedy Street NW.

Police described the suspects as follows:

  • Suspect One: black male, 6'1” in height, wearing a tan sweater, dark pants, and armed with an assault rifle.
  • Suspect Two: black male, 5’8”-5’10” in height, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and armed with an assault rifle.
  • Suspect Three is unknown.

The report adds: "Anyone who has information regarding this case should call police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, information may be submitted to the TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411. The Metropolitan Police Department of Washington, DC currently offers a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for an armed robbery committed in the District of Columbia.
