Metro Shutting Down 6 Stations in DC This Weekend
Downtown D.C. will be completely inaccessible by rail this weekend due to some major work planned.
WASHINGTON, DC — Bad news if you were planning on using the Metro this weekend: a total of six stations are shutting down completely in downtown D.C.
Metro will be shuttering the Farragut West, McPherson Square, Federal Triangle, Smithsonian, Federal Center SW and Capitol South stations on the Orange, Blue and Silver lines this weekend.
Metro is taking the extraordinary step in order to complete a major work project on those lines. Free shuttle buses will be provided to impacted riders.

If you commute from Arlington or out in Reston, it's going to be pretty problematic as well. Orange and Blue line trains will run every 15 minutes, and the Silver Line trains will also be 15 minutes apart and will operate only between Wiehle-Reston East and Ballston.
It's an appetizer for the return of the "Surges" in 2017, starting with an 18-day line segment shutdown between Rosslyn and the Pentagon on the Blue Line starting Feb. 11.
