Metro Sued Because a Pole Allegedly Hit Somebody in the Head: Report

A lawyer is reportedly suing Metro for $50 million for negligence.

WASHINGTON, DC — Can Metro do anything right these days? Now a lawyer is reportedly suing the beleaguered system for $50 million because he says a metal pole came crashing down on his head at Metro Center last year.

The complaint, filed by Kevin LoVecchio, claims that as he was leaving through the 13th and G Street exit at Metro Center on Aug. 31, 2015, a metal pole used as part of the gates that block off the station "violently struck" him, according to a WTOP report.

Passersby called 911 after LoVecchio stumbled up the escalator, and he hasn't been able to work since the incident, the suit claims. He alleges that Metro is guilty of negligence.

Negligence is not an unusual complaint about Metro in the last year or so, as complaints have mounted in the wake of an ongoing SafeTrack program, a budget crisis and proposed service hours cuts, all during a time when riders complain that the system is decrepit and dysfunctional.
